Zel (Seel) Abram Yakovlevich (26 October 1919, Riga) — worker.
Abram Zel was born into the family of Yakov Leibovich Zel (1894, Ventspils – 27 February 1971, Riga) and Gita Abramovna Zel (Klein)(1894, Ventspils – 3 November 1981, Riga). He received a secondary education and worked in Riga at the factories Lippert (1935), Kogan and Elve (1935–1937), Terminal (1937–1938), and at the plywood factory Prima (1939–1940). Before the outbreak of the Second World War, he was senior pioneer leader at Jewish Secondary School No. 7.
During the war, Abram was evacuated to the Chelyabinsk region and later to the Kirghiz SSR. After returning to Riga, he worked as a storekeeper at Canteen No. 3 (1945–1949). In 1949, he was convicted of negligence and served a one-year sentence. He then worked in Riga at the artels Specialist (1950–1953) and Tervete (1953–1956, Dobele), and as a master of the weaving workshop at the Promkombinat of Ilukste district. Convicted of bribery, he served a two-year sentence in Olaine and was amnestied in 1957.
Afterwards, he worked at the procurement office of Latpotrebsoyuz (1958–1959, Riga), as a foreman at the knitting workshop of a Promkombinat (1960–1961, Tulchin, Ukraine), and later as a weigher, assistant head of the container department, head of commercial operations, and head of the sorting platform at Riga Freight Station (1961–1972). From 1972 to 1975, he was a workshop master at the Latpotrebsoyuz food factory in Riga, and in 1975, an expediter at the Riga Institute of Traumatology and Orthopaedics.
In marriage to Lifshits (Kuklya) Ester Leibovna (6 July 1918, Rezekne), he had a daughter, Polina Abramovna Nasteter (nee Zel) (1951, Riga), and a son, Lev Abramovich Zel(1954–1985, Riga).
Permission to emigrate to Israel, where since 1973 his daughter Polina Nasteter (née Zel) lived, was granted in 1985, but due to the death of his son that same year, he emigrated only in 1987 after receiving renewed permission.
