Zak (Zack) Todres Izrailevich (17.05.1921, Daugavpils) - furrier.
In 1921 Zak's parents moved to Riga. In 1936 he graduated from 8 classes of Jewish school in Riga. In 1936-38 he worked as an apprentice tinsmith in Pikel's workshop. In 1938 he entered Gerson's workshop in Riga and learnt the furrier's trade. He worked as a furrier for the firm Mayofis. In 1940-41 he worked as a skinner at the Vulfson tannery in Riga. In 1941 he was evacuated to the Saratov region and until 1943 worked in the meat state farm No. 98. In 1943-44 he worked in the auxiliary farm of the Kuzbassugol Combine in Novosibirsk. In 1944-45 he served as a rifleman in the 387th reserve rifle regiment (Omsk). In 1945 he fought on the 1st Belorussian Front, participated in the liberation of Poland. In 1945-47 worked as an interpreter in the MGB operative section in Berlin. In 1947 he was demobilised and returned to Latvia. Until 1948 he worked as a furrier in the artel ‘Bytremont’. In 1948-50. Todres Zak was a labourer in the artel ‘Himproduct’. In 1950-81 he worked as a furrier at the ‘Elektra’ factory, at the ‘Briviba’ artel, at the “Silhouettes” factory and at the ‘Rigas Modes’ production association.
In marriage with Sima Zak (Zaks) (Taits) (1921, Daugavpils) children Israel Zak (1951, Riga) and Bella Gavare (Zak) (1954, Riga) were born.
Todres Zak was awarded medals ‘For bravery’, ‘For victory over Germany in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-45’, Order of the Patriotic War of 1941-45, Order of the Great Patriotic War of 1941-45, Order of the Great Patriotic War of 1941-45. Order of the Patriotic War of the 2nd degree.
Zak's parents and sister, Israel Zak (1897, Daugavpils - 1941, Riga),Buna Zak (Liberzon) (1895, Daugavpils - 1941, Riga) and Joha Zak Joha (1925, Riga - 1941, Riga) were shot in the Riga ghetto. His sister, Eida Goldshmit (Zak) (1931, Riga), lived in Riga in the 1980s. His brother, Chaim Zaks (1929, Riga), emigrated from Latvia in 1969 and in the 1980s was the owner of a dry-cleaning shop in West Berlin.
