Yoel (Joel) Yofan (Jofan)
(1914, Riga – ?) — Zionist activist.
Yoel Yofan was born into a Zionist family. Until 1927 he was a member of Beitar. In 1929 joined the Bar Kokhba and Gordonia movements and underwent chalutz agricultural training in Tukums. From 1932 until the German occupation he continued Zionist activity.
Mobilized into the Red Army in 1941, Yoel Yofan took part in World War II. In 1944 he was arrested on charges of Zionist activity and sentenced to ten years of exile in Siberia. Released in 1954. Yoel Yofan fought for the right to emigrate to Israel, and in 1969, upon receiving permission, moved there.
