Vovsi (Wowsy) Aviva (Awiwa) (born 1938, Riga) – physicist-optician, specialist in thin-film coatings on metals and polymer materials.
From 1938 to 1941, Aviva Vovsi lived in Riga; from 1941 to 1946, she was in evacuation; from 1946 to 1956, she lived in Ludza, and in 1956 she returned to Riga. In 1961, she graduated from the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics at the Latvian State University. Between 1968 and 1972, she undertook postgraduate studies at Leningrad State University. In 1972, she was awarded the degree of Candidate of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, having defended her dissertation on “Mechanical Stresses and Electronic Processes in Thin Layers of Cadmium Telluride.”
Since 1973, she worked as a lead engineer at the Special Design Bureau for Vacuum Coatings under the Latvian SSR State Planning Committee (since 1991 – JSC “Sidrabe”). Her research contributed to expanding the range of protective and decorative properties of vacuum coatings on metals and polymers, including materials used in the aerospace industry.
Aviva Vovsi published nine scientific articles, holds five inventor's certificates, and one patent.
