Spokoino Giler (Hiler) Vulfovich (7 February 1908, Līvāni) — physician.

From 1921 to 1925, Giler Spokoino studied at the Dvinsk City Gymnasium. From 1925 to 1932, he was a student at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Brno (Czechoslovakia), graduating with a medical degree.

From 1933 to 1934, he served in the Latvian Army in the 12th Bauska Regiment as a private and medical orderly. From 1938 to 1940, he studied at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Latvia and received a second medical diploma.

In September 1940, he entered service at NKVD Prison No. 1 of the Latvian SSR, where he worked as head of the medical service until the outbreak of the war. He was evacuated to Gorky, then to the Solotchinsky District of Ryazan Region, where he worked as a camp physician of the NKVD Main Directorate of Camps until 20 August 1941.

He then volunteered for the Latvian Division and, until 20 July 1946, served on various fronts of the Second World War, working as a regimental doctor and later as head of a hospital.

After demobilisation, he joined the Republican Committee of the Seamen’s Trade Union, where he worked as an insurance physician. From 1951, he served as a district physician at Riga City Polyclinic No. 4.

He was awarded the Order of the Red Star (twice), and the medals “For the Victory over Germany” and “For the Defence of Moscow.”
