Sifman (Sifmann) Roza (Rosa) Iosifovna (1900, Goldingen, Courland Province — 1978, Moscow) — demographer, medical statistician.

Roza Sifman was a Candidate of Biological Sciences (1943). In 1923, she graduated from the philosophical division of the Faculty of History and Philology of the First Moscow State University.

At the same time, from 1920 to 1935, she worked at the Central Statistical Administration (CSU) of the RSFSR (later USSR).

From 1935 to 1956, she was employed in research institutions of the public health system, including the Scientific-Methodological Bureau of Sanitary Statistics of the Institute of Social Hygiene of the First Moscow Medical Institute, as well as the People’s Commissariat of Health of the USSR. From 1945 to 1951, she worked at the Institute for the Organization of Health Care and the History of Medicine of the Academy of Medical Sciences of the USSR.

From 1964 to 1978, she was a senior researcher in the Department of Demography of the Research Institute of the Central Statistical Administration of the USSR.

She developed estimates of the population of Russia for the period 1897–1914. She was the first to apply the cohort method to study the dynamics of fertility in the USSR, both overall and across specific population groups. She also conducted the first studies in Soviet demography of proto- and intergenetic intervals.

She made a significant contribution to the study of the dynamics and determinants of fertility in the USSR, developing programs for a number of fertility surveys conducted in the 1960s–1970s.
