Shveynik Filipp Osipovich (11.07.1911, Riga ― 09.08.1974, Riga) ― pianist.
As a child he studied at the piano studio of Yu. Mayevsky.
In 1933 he completed the Latvian Conservatory (class of N. Karkliņš).
In 1934 he moved to the USSR. In 1935―36 he worked as a piano teacher at the Khabarovsk Music School.
In late 1936 he was arrested, charged with espionage, and sentenced to 5 years (until December 1941); however, owing to the Second World War he was not released and remained in confinement until the end of 1945. He returned to Latvia in 1946 without the right to reside in Riga.
He lived in Liepāja, working at the music college as a piano teacher, and later as director.
He was repressed a second time in 1949, and exiled to Yeniseysk (Krasnoyarsk Territory).
After his release in 1954 he returned to Riga. He was director of the Riga Music College, and then, until 1974, director of the Latvian Philharmonic.
Under his leadership the Philharmonic became one of the best concert organizations in the USSR.
