Serkin Khaim (Chaim) Isaevich (2 July 1915, Vilnius) – tailor.
After completing five years of primary education, he became an apprentice tailor in Tsypin’s workshop in Vilnius, where he worked as a tailor until 1939. In 1939, he moved to Minsk and worked as a tailor in the “Proletary” cooperative. In the first days of the war, he volunteered for the front. In 1942, he returned to the rear and worked as a tailor in a military supply workshop in Cheboksary, Chuvash ASSR. From September 1944 to December 1945, he served in the ranks of the Polish Army. After demobilisation, he moved to Riga, where he worked as a tailor in the “Briviba” cooperative until 1951. From 1957 to 1960, he worked at the household services combine of the Proletarsky district of Riga.
His move to Belarus shortly before the war saved his life: in 1941, all of his relatives in Vilnius were killed — his father Isaak Serkin (1893–1941), his mother Feyzl Serkina (née Loshanskaya) (1895–1941), and his sisters Doba Serkina (1913–1941), Nehama Serkina (1917–1941), Zelda Serkina (1921–1941), and Tsipa Serkina (1923–1941).
