Potash (Potasch) Hirsh (Hirsch) Osherovich (b. 1 January 1909, Kraslava) — tailor
Girsh Potash was born into the family of blacksmith Osher Potash (1885–1941).
After completing five years of primary school, Girsh Potash was apprenticed in the tailoring trade and until 1941 lived and worked as a tailor in Kraslava, Riga, and Daugavpils. He was captured in occupied Daugavpils and sent to the local ghetto, later transferred to the Salaspils concentration camp, and from there deported to the Stutthof concentration camp near Danzig (prisoner no. 96260). He was liberated by units of the Soviet Army in March 1945 and voluntarily enlisted in the army. After demobilisation, he returned to Daugavpils.
Having found none of his family alive — his wife Khaya Potash (1905–1941), son Natan Potash (date of birth unknown–1941), daughter Anna Potash (1940–1941), mother Sara Potash (date of birth unknown–1941), father Osher Potash (1885–1941), brother Boris Potash (1912–1941), and sister Ester (Emma) Potash (date of birth unknown–1941) were murdered in 1941 in Daugavpils and Kraslava — he moved to Riga.
In 1946, he remarried Frida Blaer (1921), a native of Kraslava. Their son Oleg was born in 1947 and their daughter Liya in 1953. Despite disabilities of the 2nd and 3rd categories resulting from severe health deterioration in the camps (diabetes, hepatitis, angina), he continued to work as a tailor until the mid-1960s. Potash emigrated from Riga to Israel in 1965.
His brother Abram Potash (1920–1942) was killed near Naro-Fominsk. Another brother, Moisey Potash (1911), also a tailor, moved to Poland with his Polish-citizen wife (date unknown) and emigrated to Israel in 1957.
