Polsky Boris Semyonovich (b. 1947, Riga) — specialist in applied mathematics, semiconductor device physics, and computer-aided design (CAD) systems for integrated circuit fabrication technologies.

Boris Polsky graduated from the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics of the Latvian State University in 1970. He has held a Candidate of Physical and Mathematical Sciences degree since 1973 (academic supervisor: Professor L. I. Rubinstein) and a Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences degree since 1988.

From 1973 to 1991 he worked at the Institute of Mathematics and Informatics of the Latvian State University as Senior Research Fellow, Leading Research Fellow, Chief Research Fellow, and Head of a Research Group. He led the development of new physical models and numerical algorithms for simulating physical processes in integrated circuit components. These developments formed the basis for the first computer-aided design (CAD) system for integrated circuit elements, which was widely used in laboratories and enterprises of the country’s semiconductor industry.

In 1991 he moved to the United States, where he continued his research and leadership work in the development and implementation of CAD systems for integrated circuit fabrication technologies (TCAD) at leading semiconductor companies in the USA, Japan, Korea, and Europe.

As an employee of Integrated System Engineering Inc. (ISE), he led the development and industrial implementation of the first three-dimensional simulation system for semiconductor devices and their manufacturing processes. At the same time, he created and trained a group of highly qualified TCAD specialists who supported the use of the developed software at leading semiconductor companies in the USA, Japan, and Europe, earning a strong reputation in the semiconductor industry.

Following the merger of ISE with the global leader in electronic design automation, Synopsys, in 2004, he headed a department (over 50 developers) responsible for developing a new generation of TCAD software (code name: Sentaurus). This work resulted in the widespread adoption of Sentaurus software by leading semiconductor companies worldwide, generating multi-million-dollar annual revenues.

Author of numerous publications in English and Russian.
