Perlman Max (1909, Riga – 1985) — comic actor, dancer, singer, and songwriter.
Born into a middle-class family, he began singing in Rosovsky’s choir at the age of six and soon started performing children’s roles in the theater. He studied at the theater studio of the Peretz Club in Riga and acted in theaters in both Russian and Yiddish. From 1928 to 1934, following the founding of the New Jewish Theater (Riga Nayer Yidishe Teater), he became a professional actor, performing in Riga and Kaunas. He also toured in Vienna, Czechoslovakia, Poland, Belgium, and the United Kingdom.
In 1939, he was invited to Argentina, where he lived for three years before moving to Uruguay, then Chile, and in 1945 to Latin America more broadly. He toured South Africa in 1948 and 1951, and in 1952 returned to the United States, where he performed regularly while residing permanently in Israel.
In 1966, Max Perlman returned to Argentina and in 1967 undertook a tour with Jewish comedian Shimon Dzigan. Between 1968 and 1974, he extensively toured the U.S., South Africa, and Europe. His final performance took place in 1985 during a tour across the U.S., Israel, and Australia, alongside Israeli stage star Menora Zahav.
