Philip Michelsohn was born in Bauska; his father was Yona. In 1904 he graduated from the Riga City Gymnasium and the Faculty of Law of the University of Tartu (Dorpat). In 1904–1905 he worked in Riga as an assistant to sworn attorney Zeminsky. From 1909 he was an assistant to sworn attorney Ya. Rabinovich in St. Petersburg, and from 10 February 1910 he practiced as a sworn attorney himself. In 1918 he returned to Riga, where he continued his legal practice.

In April 1919 he moved to Berlin, but at the end of 1920 returned again to Riga. From 25 May 1921 he was a sworn attorney in Riga. For 30 years he was active in the Zionist organization Histadrut HaTzionit. After the coup d’état of 15 May 1934, he was fined 1,500 lats or sentenced to three months’ arrest “for spreading false information and rumors.”

He died on 16 April 1938 and was buried at the New Jewish Cemetery.

He was married to Beilla Feitelson (24 September 1890 — 8 August 1936). Their daughters were Angelika Glick (born 20 May 1921) and Irena (born 19 March 1930).

He was a member (philister) of the Jewish student corporation Limuvia at the University of Tartu.
