Markovnik (Markownik) Mosus (Marko, Misha) (September 19, 1916, Riga - summer 1941, Estonia) - mechanic, participant in the war in Spain and World War II.
Mosus Markovnik was born to Israel and Hanna Markovnik. He graduated from a Jewish elementary school, studied for three years at a Jewish vocational school, specializing in mechanic-mechanic, and worked as a mechanic in a private company. He participated in the revolutionary movement in Latvia and was arrested several times. In 1936, he wanted to cross the border into the USSR, was detained by Latvian border guards, and spent a year in prison. In July 1937, he left for Paris, and from there to Spain, where he fought in the war, serving as a signalman in the Guadaram mountains and a telephone operator in a heavy artillery division. From February 1939, he was held in the Gurs concentration camp for refugees from Spain in southern France, then transferred to the Argeles-sur-Mer camp. In August 1940, he received permission to enter Latvia. During World War II, he served in the Workers' Guard. He was killed in the summer of 1941 on the Estonian front.
