Magidson Joseph (20.12.1888, Tukums – 14.02.1969, United States) – footballer. Joseph Magidson was born in Tukums and moved to the United States as a child. He played as a midfielder for the Michigan State University team in the American championships in 1909 and 1910. He was the first Jewish student at Michigan State University to be allowed to wear the letter ‘M’ on his sports shirt, signifying his membership of the university sports team. The team he played for lost only one game in two seasons. He was the first Jew at the university not to participate in games during Jewish holidays. From 1912 to 1946, he headed the football section of the Western Athletic Association.
