Lipeles (née Karlin; later Breido; later Ioffe) Mikhalina (Michalina) Mendeleevna (born 29 March 1914, Riga) – shop assistant.

In 1927, Mikhalina Lipeles completed Riga Jewish Six-Form School No. 2. From 1929 to 1930, she worked at the Shalit tobacco shop in Riga. From 1930 to 1941, she was employed at the shop “Džentlmen” (“Gentleman”) as a sales assistant and, after promotion, as deputy head of the department. In June 1941, she evacuated with her family to the Laish district of the Uzbek SSR. She first worked as a hospital orderly and, from summer 1942, as a labourer at the cotton-receiving station in the town of Laish.

In 1943, Mikhalina Lipeles was convicted under Article 234 of the Criminal Code of the RSFSR and sentenced to two years’ imprisonment. She was released in May 1945 under an amnesty, with her conviction expunged.

In the 1950s, she returned to Riga and, until 1959, did not work, being supported by her second husband. In 1959, she found employment at Housing Maintenance Office (ZhER) No. 13 in the Kirov District. From 1963 to 1969, she worked as a ticket inspector for the Riga Tram and Trolleybus Administration. In 1969, she retired, and from 1970 to 1978 she continued to work for the Riga Municipal Trade Department (Gorpromtorg).

Her first husband, Lev Breido (1911–1942), born in Polotsk, was drafted into the army in 1941 and was killed in action near Staraya Russa. Her second husband, Leib Lipeles (1904–1968), was born in Vilnius and is buried in Riga. Her third marriage, to Idel Ioffe (born 1920, Riga), ended in divorce in the 1970s, after which she reverted to the surname of her second husband.

The war took the lives of Mikhalina’s mother, Ginda Karlin (née Berman) (1877–1942), who perished in the Riga Ghetto, and her son from her first marriage, Mark Breido (1940–1942), buried in the settlement of Laish in the Uzbek SSR. Her sister, Tatyana Yushinskaya (née Karlin) (1903–1969), was born in Berdichev and is buried in Riga.

In 1978, Mikhalina Lipeles left Latvia.
