In 1941, she was evacuated with her mother to Ulyanovsk, where she began school in 1944. After returning to Riga (1946–47), she completed ten years of secondary school (1954), and then graduated from the Riga Medical Institute (1960). She worked as a paediatrician at Children’s Home No. 4 (1960–1961), Children’s Polyclinic No. 5 (1961), the 2nd Riga United Children’s Hospital (1961–1963), the Ministry of Internal Affairs Hospital (1963–1968), the 1st City Children’s Polyclinic (1968), Nursery–Kindergarten No. 206 (1968–1969), and the 1st City Polyclinic (1969–1974).
In her marriage to Aleksandr Yakovlevich Lifshits (1930, Riga), she had a daughter, Adelina Aleksandrovna Lifshits (1962, Riga). The marriage was dissolved in 1971.
In 1974, Miryam Lifshits received permission to emigrate to Israel, where since 1971 her uncle (her father’s brother), Elkhonon Yankelevich Yakobson (1921, Ventspils), had been living.
