Liber Ilya Khonovich (December 3, 1932, Riga) — worker.

Ilya Liber was born into the family of Khona Abramovich Liber (1901, Rezekne, Latvia — killed at the front in 1941 during WWII) and Tsira-Mirka Davidovna Liber (née Chernia; later Weisman) (1901, Rezekne). In 1941 he was evacuated to the village of Stamyaki, Kirov Oblast. After his father’s death, the family moved to the Chuvash ASSR, where his maternal uncle Moshe-Girsh Davidovich Chernia (1897, Rezekne) lived — a man who, in Ilya Liber’s words, “replaced his father.”

After returning to Riga in 1944, he completed the 6th grade in 1947. He worked as a procurement worker at the Industrial Combine of the Stalinsky District (1947–1948), then at the “Spars” artel (1948–1952). He served in the Soviet Army in the Transbaikal Military District (1952–1955). After demobilization he returned to Riga and again worked as a procurement worker at the “Spars” artel (1955–1956), then at the “Gaisma” artel (1956–1958), and later as a cutter at the “Rīgas apavi” production association (1958–1971).

Married to Gisya Osherovna Liber (née Natan) (1937, Riga). Their sons are German Ilyich Liber (1964, Riga) and Oskar Ilyich Liber (1967, Riga).

In 1971 he received permission to emigrate to Israel, where since 1969 his uncle and guardian Moshe-Girsh Davidovich Chernia (1897) had been living.
