Levin (Lewin) Nokhim (Nochim) Kalmanovich (13 July 1895, Borisov, Minsk Province) — shoe cutter.

Nokhim Levin was the son of Kalman Levin (d. 1916) and Khaya-Elka Levina (d. 1918). In the 1910s he moved to Riga on his own in search of work. In 1912–14 and 1918–21 he worked as a shoe procurer in Minkov’s private cobbler’s workshop in Riga, at 114 Lāčplēša Street. In 1914–18 he served in the Russian Army and took part in battles on the fronts of the First World War. In 1921–41 he was a shoe cutter in Deres’s workshop in Riga, at 30 Tērbatas Street.

In 1941 he was imprisoned in the Riga Ghetto. In 1943 he was transferred to Germany. Liberated by Soviet troops in 1945. In 1946 he returned to Riga. Until 1948 he worked as a shoe cutter in the “Kurpnieks” artel. From 1948 he worked as a shoe cutter in the “Spars” artel, at the “Daugava” industrial combine, and at the “Venta” and “Ērglis” factories. He was a Group II labour invalid from 1959.

His brother, Villi Levin, emigrated to the USA in the 1910s and in the 1960s ran his own refrigeration service enterprise in New York.

During the Holocaust his first wife, Sara-Roza (Keyts) Levina (1897–1941, Riga), and their children — Yankel Levin (1929–1941, Riga) and Kalman Levin (1933–1941, Riga) — were killed, as well as his sisters, Mina (Levina) Kuperman (d. 1942, Mogilev Region) and Sara Levina (d. 1942, Belarus), and his brother David Levin (d. 1942, Belarus).

In his second marriage to Rakhil (Portnoy) Levina (1903, Daugavpils) a daughter, Leya Levina (date unclear, Riga), was born. In 1964 he received permission to emigrate to Israel at the invitation of his cousin, Solomon Sher.
