Levin (Lewin) Aron Vulfovich
(1905, Dvinsk, Vitebsk Province – 1974, Leningrad) — power engineer, specialist in turbine construction, Doctor of Technical Sciences (1961), Professor (1962).
Aron Levin graduated from the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics of Leningrad University in 1929, and in 1931 from the Faculty of Power Engineering Machinery of the All-Union Boiler and Turbine Institute in Leningrad.
From 1931 to 1974 he worked at the Leningrad Metallurgical Plant, where from 1944 to 1969 he headed the calculation department of the Steam Turbine Design Bureau. At the same time, he taught at the factory technical institute attached to the plant.
His main scientific work focused on the strength and vibration of turbine blades and disks. He proposed new methods for calculating blades and discs and supervised the calculations of the blades of the final stages of turbines produced in 1936–41, known for their high reliability.
During 1941–45, under Levin’s leadership, the design bureau developed projects for a series of high-pressure turbines.
In the 1950s, the plant completed thermal and strength calculations for all turbines it produced, including the K-200-130 turbine, and also designed a 1200 MW turbine.
Awards: Stalin Prize (1948), Leningrad Prize (1963).
