Kagan Masha Yakovlevna (1904 – unknown).

From 1915 to 1930 Masha Kagan worked as a shop assistant. From 1918 she took part in the activities of the illegal revolutionary movement in Latvia: she joined the left-wing trade union and participated in a semi-legal youth circle. In 1920 became a member of the Komsomol. In 1927 she was admitted to the illegal Communist Party and took part in its work in connection with sickness funds. Her flat was repeatedly used for conspiratorial purposes by the Komsomol organisation. On the instructions of the Party organisation, she headed the Vinchevsky Club; for several years she was elected by the Left Workers’ Faction as a delegate to the sickness fund and carried out other assignments.

During the Second World War she was evacuated with her husband and young children to the Chuvash ASSR, where she worked as a nurse. Her husband, Vulf Ovseevich Kagan, joined the Red Army in 1941 and was soon killed. After the end of the war, she returned to Riga.
