Golansky Ilya Savelyevich (born 1911, Viļaka, Latvia) — driver.
Ilya Golansky was born into the family of Savely Davidovich Golansky (1873, Viļaka – murdered by the Nazis in 1941) and Sara Rafailovna Golanskaya (1870–1917, Viļaka). He completed six years of primary education and worked as an agricultural machinery sales agent in Ābele, Latvia (1927–1941). During the war, he was evacuated to the Kazakh SSR, where he worked as a labourer and later as a driver at the lead-processing plant “Tekelistroy” in Tekeli (1941–1945).
After returning to Latvia, he worked in Riga as a driver for ATK-5 (1945–1950), then as a procurement agent and driver for “Promutil” artel, later reorganised into the textile combine “Saule” (1950–1967). In 1968, he worked as a driver for the Riga District Consumer Services Administration (Baloži), as a procurement agent for Latpotrebsoyuz (Riga), and as a driver-procurement agent for the Limbaži Consumer Co-operative (1968–1971).
He was married to Zelda Lvovna Golanskaya (née Levina) (born 1915, Novgorod), with whom he had three children:
– Isaak Ilyich Golansky (born 1943, Tekeli, Kazakh SSR)
– She’el Ilyich Golansky (born 1946, Riga)
– Sofia Ilyinichna Golanskaya (born 1951, Riga)
In 1971, he received permission to emigrate to Israel, where his brother Yosef Savelyevich Golansky (born 1913, Viļaka) was already residing.
All of Ilya Golansky’s sisters — Feiga Shetser (née Golanskaya) (1904–1941), Frida Apananskaya (née Golanskaya) (1906–1941), Perl Herevich (née Golanskaya) (1908–1941), and Liba Khait (née Golanskaya) (1910–1941) — as well as his father, were murdered by the Nazis. The precise locations of their deaths (Viļaka or elsewhere) are not specified in the documents.
