Iosif Glezerov began his working career in 1932 as a fitter at the Krasny Oktyabr (Red October) factory in Leningrad. From 1936 to 1955, he worked as a hydro-turbine fitter at the Leningrad Metallurgical Plant and as a senior foreman at the heavy engineering plant.

From 1955 onwards, he was employed within the Spetsgidroenergomontazh trust system. He participated in the construction of numerous hydroelectric power stations across the Soviet Union, including the Ust-Kamenogorsk, Farkhad, Kaunas, Pļaviņas, and Riga HPPs. A member of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union (CPSU) since 1965, he served from 1969 to 1977 as a foreman responsible for capital repairs of hydro units at the Daugava HPP Cascade.

For his role in the construction of the Kuybyshev Hydroelectric Power Station, he was awarded the Order of Lenin. For the commissioning of the Pļaviņas HPP units, he was granted the honorary title of Honoured Builder of the Latvian SSR. He held the status of a personal pensioner of republican significance
