Solomon Furman began his working career in 1917. From 1925 to 1931 he studied at a workers’ faculty (rabfak) and later at the Institute of Soviet Construction and Law in Moscow. After graduation he was assigned to the Kara-Kalpak Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic, where he worked as head of the Soviet Construction Group in the People’s Commissariat of the Workers’ and Peasants’ Inspectorate (RKI).

In 1934 he was transferred to Kazakhstan, where he worked in Soviet and Party institutions. His positions included head of the personnel department and head of the organizational department of the Alma-Ata Regional Executive Committee, deputy director for administrative and economic affairs at the Alma-Ata Zooveterinary Technical School, head of the agitation and propaganda department of a district Party committee, and head of the financial-economic sector of the Alma-Ata regional Party committee.

From 1945 to 1951 he served as head of the financial-economic sector of the Riga City Party Committee and later as assistant to the secretary of the committee. From 1951 onward he worked as deputy head of the Administration of Light Industry, director of the “Pirmais Maijs” factory, and later director of the “Blazma” leather combine.

During his career he was repeatedly elected to trade union bodies and served as a member of the plenum of a district Party committee. He was awarded two government medals and held the status of a personal pensioner of republican significance.
