Ester Fingergoit was born into the family of Mordukh Gelmanovich Ger (1887, Rezekne — 1941, South Africa; he left the family in 1914 and emigrated there) and Dora Khaimovna Ger (née Gavartina) (1889–1933, Dvinsk).

She graduated from secondary school in Dvinsk in 1932 and worked as an accountant at a private enterprise, and later at the local state food trade organization (1935–1941).

During World War II, she was evacuated to South Kazakhstan, where she worked as a senior accountant and later as an educator in a children’s sanatorium (1942–1944, Vannovka village, Tyulkubas district).

After returning to Latvia, she worked as a senior accountant at “Voentorg” (1944–1945). After moving to Riga, she worked as a senior accountant at the restaurant “Moscow” (1945–1946).

From 1946 to 1949, she was a homemaker, then worked at the “Māksla” industrial combine (1949–1950), was again a homemaker (1950–1951), and later worked as a chemical laboratory assistant at the Latvian Theatre Society (1951–1953).

Until 1959, she remained a homemaker. From 1959 to 1964, she worked as an instructor of industrial training at several enterprises, including the Training-Production Combine, and the combines “Trud,” “Tekstilnieks,” and “Saule.” She also worked as a quality inspector at a multi-sector home-based labor combine.

In marriage with Ilya Mendelevich Zilberman (1908, Dvinsk — 1942, killed near Staraya Russa), she had no children.

In marriage with Evel Sholomovich Fingergoyt (1906, Dvinsk — 1970, Riga), she had a daughter — Rashel Evelevna Axelrod (née Fingergoyt) (1947, Riga).

In 1979, Ester Fingergoit received permission to emigrate to Israel, where since 1973 lived a relative of her daughter’s husband (the wife of his deceased cousin) — Yenta Gertsekhovna Axelrod (née Volos) (1933, Varakļāni).
