Eydus Yakov Tevelevich (1907, Dvinsk, Vitebsk Governorate — 1975, Moscow) — chemist. Doctor of Chemical Sciences (1941).
Brother of Kh.T. Eydus.
In 1930, graduated from Moscow State University; until 1934, worked there. In 1934–75 — at the Institute of Organic Chemistry of the USSR Academy of Sciences (in 1969–75, head of the laboratory of catalytic reactions of carbon monoxide); in 1944–45, acting professor at the Moscow Petroleum Institute.
Main scientific work in the field of catalysis and organic synthesis. Experimentally confirmed the hypothesis about the intermediate formation of surface methylene radicals in synthesis reactions based on carbon monoxide and hydrogen.
In 1960, completed research on the hydrocondensation of carbon monoxide with olefins and the hydropolymerisation of olefins under the influence of small amounts of carbon monoxide or oxygen. In 1970, formulated concepts of non-stoichiometric components in catalysis. Proposed new catalysts for the synthesis of hard-to-obtain carboxylic acids and esters under homogeneous-acid catalysis. In 1972, developed a new cobalt-zirconium catalyst for the synthesis of high-melting ceresin.
