Eskin Samuel (01.07.1879, Riga — ?) — civic figure. Born into the family of baker Solomon Eskin. In 1884, the family emigrated to the USA and settled in New York, where his father opened a bakery (the business ran until his death in 1890). E., with his mother Rebecca Eskin (22.04.1843–31.07.1902) and two sisters, moved to New Haven, Connecticut. In 1892, left school and began working as a clerk. In 1897, took a job with the Connecticut railway company, where he worked for 5 years. After that, used his savings to open a delicatessen business, but it was unprofitable and after 6 months E. was left without means and took a job as a presser. In 1909, entered the real estate business. On 8 September 1901, married Rosa Opper; three children were born. Was a member of several Jewish communities and engaged in Jewish charitable and civic activities. In 1911, was elected constable of New Haven; re-elected at least three times. During the Spanish-American War of 1898, was drafted into the army, where he served honourably for three years. After the war, continued to work at various companies.
