R. Yehoshua son of R. (Avraham) Leib Arsh

1)

Daugavpils / Dvinsk / Dinabug / Denenborg / Denabarg / Dayyanim, Rabbinic Decisors, and Synagogue Rabbis

He served as rosh yeshiva at the Wittenberg yeshiva in Dvinsk (a Hasidic yeshiva), as rosh yeshiva at the Tomchei Temimim yeshiva in Lubavitch from the winter of 5670 onward, and as rosh yeshiva at the Tomchei Temimim yeshiva in Charle and in Kremenchug.

At the beginning of the summer of 5679 he was sent with a group of students to open a branch of the yeshiva in Charle, and afterward returned to Dvinsk and served there as dayan until his passing.

In a letter dated 11 Nisan 56872), the Lubavitcher Rebbe (Mohariatz) inquires of a Hasid living in Dvinsk about him: “What is the wellbeing of the rosh yeshiva R. Yehoshua Arsh.”

Igrot Kodesh, there, in the note. Mibeit HaGenazim, p. 133. Yizkor Bukh fun Rakishak un Umgegnt, pp. 118 and 149.

Latvia and Rabbis

1)
In _Mibeit HaGenazim_ (Kehot, 5770), p. 133, his signature is deciphered as “Yehoshua son of R. Avraham Leib Arsh,” and in a document for the sale of chametz (of which we have a photograph) he signs “Yehoshua son of R. Leib Arsh.” But in the stamp published in _Divrei Yemei HaTmimim_, p. 468 (Jerusalem, 5777), it says “Yehoshua son of R. Tuvia Arsh, Dvinsk,” and most likely these were two different people with the same name.
