Arsh Rubin Girshevich (1914, Preiļi) – worker, participant in the underground revolutionary movement, political prisoner, and World War II veteran.
At the age of 15, Rubin Arsh worked as an apprentice in a barbershop. He was involved in the activities of MOPR (International Red Aid), distributing illegal literature and raising funds for the organisation. In 1932, he was arrested and sentenced to four years in prison, but due to his minor status, he served a reduced term.
After his release, Rubin Arsh worked at an oil mill in Riga and later served in the Latvian army. From 1937, he was employed at the Latfin plywood factory. In 1939, he was arrested for organising a workers' strike at the factory.
Between 1940 and 1941, Rubin Arsh served as chairman of the Preiļi city executive committee. At the start of World War II, he voluntarily joined the Soviet Army, serving as a squad commander and taking part in battles near Moscow and Staraya Russa. He was wounded three times.
From 1945 to 1963, Rubin Arsh worked as a tailor in Riga.
