Zelenko-Meter Khana-Taube Davidovna (1910)

Zelenko-Meter Khana-Taube Davidovna (1910)— revolutionary activist, political prisoner.

From 1926, Khana-Taube Zelenko-Meter worked as a cap-maker in Rēzekne and participated in the revolutionary movement. Between 1924 and 1927, she was a member of the underground International Organisation for Aid to Revolutionary Fighters (MOPR), and from 1927 a member of the Latvian Komsomol. She was repeatedly arrested, and in 1932 was sentenced to five years of hard labour. Altogether she spent about five years in prison. While incarcerated, she took part in protests by political prisoners, including a 13-day hunger strike. After her release, she remained under strict police surveillance.

In 1940–1941, she worked as head of the library at the Rēzekne District Party Committee and as head of the library of the Rēzekne Teachers’ Institute. A member of the CPSU from 1940, she was evacuated during the Second World War, working both in a factory and in the People’s Commissariat of Internal Affairs of the Karelo-Finnish ASSR.

Between 1945 and 1956, she served as deputy director for political affairs at a vocational training school (FZO), as commandant of the Riga Hosiery Factory, and later worked as a cutter, storekeeper, and stamper in various artels. From 1957, she was a personal pensioner of republican significance.
