Zalmanovich Zalman (1868)

Zalmanovich Zalman (1868, Neushtadt) – a public figure.

Zalman Zalmanovich comes from an important rabbinical family. He studied bookkeeping in Pinsk alongside Dr. Chaim Weizmann and Joseph Brenner. In 1904 he settled in Riga, where he became involved in educational matters and organized the “Modern Heider,” “Heider Metukan,” “Heider Kloli,” and “Yagdil Torah” schools in the Moscow forestadt (suburb). Together with the late Lütz, he was one of the pioneers of “Chovevei Zion” and chairman of the Zionist organization in Riga. He was co-chairman of “Tushiya,” elder of the Zailen Shul, and actively participated in the “Maos Hitim” commission (assistance to the poor during Passover: matzah and other necessities).
