Yavich David Leyzerovich (1926)

Yavich David Leyzerovich (2.01.1926, Varakļāni) — tool-and-die maker. Son of Yavich Reyza (1887, Rēzekne – 1941(?)) and Yavich Leyzer (1886, Varakļāni – 1933). In 1933 Ya.'s family moved to Rēzekne. Until 1941 he studied at the Rēzekne Jewish basic school. In 1941 he was evacuated to Gorky Region and until 1942 worked at the “Komunar” agricultural artel. In 1942—44 — student at railway FZO No. 15 in Ivanovo. In 1944—50 he served in the Soviet Army. Gun commander and battery sergeant major, he fought on the 3rd Belorussian Front, and fought on the territory of Poland and East Prussia. In 1950—57 — tool-and-die maker at Shop No. 9 of the “Gidrometpribor” plant in Riga. In 1957—71 — tool-and-die maker at the “Ausma” production association. Member of the CPSU in 1946—71. He was awarded the medals “For Bravery,” “For the Victory over Germany in the Great Patriotic War of 1941—45,” “30 Years of the Soviet Army,” “20 Years of the Victory over Germany in the Great Patriotic War of 1941—45,” “For the Capture of Königsberg,” “For Valiant Labor in Honor of the 100th Anniversary of V.I. Lenin's Birth,” and “50 Years of the USSR Armed Forces.” In his marriage to Yavich (née Kopman) Ida (1931, Daugavpils), son Yavich Ilya (1955, Riga) was born. In 1972 Ya. received permission to emigrate to Israel to join his wife's father's sister, Srulevich Sima (1907, Krustpils).
