Tal (Thal) Edgar Pinkhasovich (2 August 1910, Riga — 1941, Riga) — pianist.
Edgar Tal studied at the studio of Yu. Maevsky (completed his studies in 1926). He further perfected his skills in Prague with Papper and in Vienna with J. Isserlis.
He performed as a soloist in Riga concert halls and on Riga radio. He also toured in Tallinn and Kaunas, and in cities of Finland (1938). He was considered one of the best pianists in Riga.
He possessed brilliant technique. By artistic nature, he was a romantic and a lyricist. His manner of playing was compared to that of Nikolai Orlov.
His repertoire included works by Bach, Beethoven, Chopin, Scarlatti, Poulenc, Rachmaninoff, and Prokofiev. In concerts, he also performed his own compositions, including “Russian Humoresque” and “Poem.”
He also performed in a duo with his wife, pianist Ella Orkova-Talroze.
