Born in approximately 5578 (1818). His origin is from the city of Zupran, district of Vilna.

He served as rabbi from 5612 (1852) until his passing in his prime, at age 38,1) while in Bauska, on 16 Sivan 5616 (19 June 1856), and was brought to rest there.

So writes R. Avitzinsky, but in the death register of the Bauska community it is written that he passed away at age 45, and by that reckoning he was born around 5571.
