Openstein (Oppenstein) German (Hermann) Izrailevich (5 January 1947, Riga) — oboist.
German Openstein was born into the family of Israel Openstein (1912, Riga – 1970) and Melta Openstein (née Klopman) (1919, Cēsis).
In 1961 he completed a seven-year school. In 1965 he graduated from the Medynya Music College in Riga and enrolled in the Latvian State Conservatory (class of Krasnoperov), which he graduated in 1970. In 1967–1971 he performed with the orchestra of the Latvian Musical Comedy Theatre.
In 1971 he received permission to emigrate to Israel at the invitation of his mother’s sisters, Lina Likover (née Klopman) (1915, Cēsis) and Sara Kestenberg (née Klopman) (1922, Cēsis). In Israel he played in the Israel Symphony Orchestra as second oboe.
