Lipman (Lipmann) (née Blumental; later Kapelyushnik) Ida Levovna (born 19 August 1909, Kuldīga) – shop assistant.

Ida Lipman was the daughter of Lev Blumental (1863, Kuldīga – 1941, Liepāja) and Esther Blumental (née Lichtenstein) (died 1920, Liepāja).

In 1922, she completed eight classes of the Jewish municipal school in Liepāja. From 1922 to 1930 she was an apprentice and later a sales assistant at Tala’s haberdashery shop in Liepāja. From 1930 to 1933 she worked as a sales assistant at B. Kovaldo’s haberdashery shop in Riga, and from 1933 to 1935 at the Hirschhorn and Gordon haberdashery shop in Riga. From 1935 to 1941 she was a housewife.

In 1941, Ida Lipman was evacuated to Kokand, where she worked at a soda factory until 1945. In 1945 she returned to Riga and until 1946 worked as a home-based cutter for the “Soyuzutil’” workshop. From 1946 to 1949 she was a homemaker. From 1949 to 1956 she worked as a sales assistant in a shop of the 2nd Riga City Industrial Trade Administration.

In her first marriage, to Shepshela Kapelyushnik (1910, Jēkabpils – 1941, Naro-Fominsk), she had three children:

– Robert Shepshelovich Kapelyushnik (born 1935, Riga),

– Esther Kapelyushnik (1939–1942, Kokand),

– Max Kapelyushnik (1941–1942, Kokand).

In her second marriage, to Israel Lipman (1907–1950, Riga), she had a daughter, Maria Lipman (born 1947).

During the Holocaust, Ida Lipman lost her father and five sisters with their families:

Asne Levinson (née Blumental) (1890–1941),

Riva Peker (née Blumental) (1892–1941),

Paula Fischer (née Blumental) (1893–1941),

Zara Anenburg (née Blumental) (1895–1941),

Dora Lipman (née Blumental) (1907–1941).

Her brother Mikhail Blumental (born 1897, Kuldīga) emigrated from Latvia to South Africa in 1925.

In 1956 Ida Lipman applied for permission to emigrate to South Africa to join him. Her request was denied, and only in 1965 did her family receive permission to emigrate from Latvia to Israel.
