Mentioned in the responsa Zekher Yehoseph, Orach Chaim, section 93: “year 5623, to R. Yosef, Maggid Mesharim in Mitavia, on his question regarding the kindling of candles in the synagogue on Shabbat by a non-Jew,” and at the end of the responsum: “and in the year 5632 he came again with his question.”
Two additional responsa to him appear in the Even HaEzer section (Jerusalem Institute edition) from 5653 — section 41 “to R. Yosef Levy, Maggid Mesharim at the Beit Midrash of Mitavia,” and continuing, section 42.
He appears in the prenumeranten list at the end of Tiferet Shaul, vol. 3: “the Rabbi Maggid Mesharim R. Yosef Segal of Mitave.”
