Levin (Lewin) Gdalya Borisovich (6 February 1912, Riga) — lawyer.

From 1927 to 1931, Gdalya Levin worked at the Riga port. In 1931, he joined the Zionist student organization Galileya, through which he found employment at a Jewish school. In 1931–1934, he served as a clerk at Riga Municipal Jewish Primary School No. 9. Also in 1931, he entered the Faculty of Law at the University of Latvia.

In early 1934, Levin left Galileya and joined the underground communist movement in Latvia. In August 1934, he was arrested by the Latvian Security Police for communist activity, specifically for passing on communist publications (Pravda and Izvestiya). Because of the arrest, he was dismissed from his job and expelled from the university.

In 1934–1935, he performed military service in the Latvian Army. After demobilization, he was unable to find work. In 1935, friends warned him of a pending second arrest under the Kerensky Law, and he was forced to leave the country.

From 1935 to 1941, he lived and worked in France (Paris, Rouen), employed as a driver, private tutor, and laboratory chemist. In 1941, he returned to Riga and was reinstated at the university.

In 1942–1945, Gdalya Levin served in the Soviet Army as an assistant commander; he was demobilized in 1945 due to disability. He was awarded the Medal for Battle Merit.

In 1945, he graduated from the Faculty of Law of the Latvian State University.
