Iofan ( Kotler, Herman) Meria Simkhonovna (12 March 1928, Riga) - сutter
Meria Iofan was the daughter of Simkha Kotler (1883, Rezēkne).
In 1940 she completed six grades at an incomplete Jewish secondary school. In 1941 she was evacuated to the collective farm Amangeldi and, between 1942 and 1944, worked on tobacco plantations in the Kazakh SSR.
From 1956 to 1966 she was a cutter at the shoe factories Pioner and 1 May. In 1963 she was administratively punished for theft of goods and, for three months, transferred to a lower‑paid position. From 1966 onward she worked as a cutter at the DOSAAF household combine.
In her marriage to Efim Herman (1923, Riga) she had two sons: Anatoly Herman (1947, Riga) and Isaak Herman (1951, Riga). In her marriage to Ioël Iofan (1914, Riga) she had a daughter, Lia Iofan (1959, Riga).
In 1956 Meria Iofan submitted her first petition to emigrate to Israel. The family did not receive permission to leave until 1969. During the 1970s she lived in Tel‑Aviv and continued working as a zakroshchitsa.
