The text of his tombstone (still standing today):

Here Eliyahu (?) \
ascended to heaven in a storm. The rabbi, \
the great luminary, known at the gates, \
sharp and expert in all the books, a pillar and uprooter \
of mountains. He performed the righteousness of God and \
upright ordinances. He illumined the land \
and its dwellers, like the distinguished and renowned \
our lord, our teacher \
and our rabbi, Eliyahu, \
son of R. Yosef, of blessed memory. [Day] one, \
Rosh Chodesh Tevet, year \
5603. May his soul be bound in the bond of life.
