Goldman David Semyonovich (born 7 July 1922, Dnipropetrovsk [formerly Yekaterinoslav]) — glazier.
David Goldman was the son of Semyon Goldman (1898, Tukums – 1937, Riga) and Maria Goldman (1902, Šiauliai – 1941, Riga). In the late 1920s, his parents moved to Latvia. In 1937, he completed four classes at Riga’s 14th Jewish lower secondary school. Between 1937 and 1940, he was apprenticed to a glazier at a private workshop on Brīvības Street 113 in Riga. From 1940 to 1941, he worked as a mechanic at an agricultural machinery plant in Riga.
Goldman voluntarily joined the Latvian Battalion and fought on the Leningrad and Courland fronts during the Second World War. After being wounded, he was declared unfit for frontline duty and assigned to a factory in the Chelyabinsk region. He was awarded the medals “For Courage” and “For the Victory over Germany in the Great Patriotic War 1941–45.”
After demobilisation in 1947, he worked as a porter at the Sarkana Tekstilniece textile plant and later at the Rīgas Diegs factory. From 1948 to 1961, he was a glazier at Sarkana Tekstilniece and, from 1961 onwards, at a furniture and housing repair facility in Riga. A member of the Trade Union of Light Industry Workers since 1947.
In his marriage to Riva Goldman (née Rivkovich, 1922, Ventspils), the couple had two children: Marina Goldman (1945, Riga) and Semyon Goldman (1954, Riga). During the Holocaust, his mother, brothers Yekheskel (1924, Liepāja), Shepel (1926, Jelgava), and sister Shora (1934, Jelgava) were killed in Riga in 1941.
In 1956, David Goldman applied to emigrate to Israel to join a paternal relative, Av-Shalom Goldman (born in Tukums), who had left for Palestine in 1923. In 1970, he received permission to emigrate from Latvia.
