Gendin Basheva (1920)

Gendin (née Zaidin) Basheva (Baschewa) Ilyinichna (b. 20 September 1920, Kārsava) – pharmacist's assistant.

From 1940 to 1941, Basheva Gendin worked as a packer at Levin’s private pharmacy in Ludza. During 1941–1942, while evacuated in the Kyrgyz SSR (Frunze Region), she worked on the collective farm Kamyshanovka. In 1943, she was employed in the canteen of a butter factory in Ust-Kamenogorsk (Kazakh SSR), and from 1944 to 1945 she served as an assistant at Pharmacy No. 1 in Ust-Kamenogorsk. In 1945, she worked at the military hospital pharmacy in Riga, and in 1946 at Pharmacy No. 1 in Riga. Between 1946 and 1947, she attended pharmacy assistant training courses in Riga.

Since 1945, she was married to Khaim Movshevich Hendin (b. 16 May 1920, Riga). They had two sons: Ilya Khaimovich Gendin (b. 20 December 1946, Riga) and Moisey Khaimovich Gendin (b. 1952, Riga).

Her father, Ilya Naumovich Zaidin (b. 1879, Kārsava – d. 1941, place unknown), and her mother, Sonya Rafaëlovna Zaidin (b. 1887, Osveya – d. 1941, place unknown), perished in the ghetto.

Basheva Gendin visited her sister in Bratislava in 1957, 1962, and 1963.
