Garbel Alexander (Sasha) Eliasovich (26 April 1903, Riga – 1970, Paris) – artist.

Alexander Garbel was born into the family of Elias (Eduard) Isaakovich Garbel, a graduate of Moscow University, and Flora Mavrikievna Feitelberg. He began his education in Moscow and, in 1923, moved to Paris, where he enrolled at the Académie Ranson.

From 1928 onward, he regularly took part in both group and solo exhibitions. During the Nazi occupation, like many other artists, he relocated to the village of Mirmande in the French Alps, where the artist André Lhote established a Free Academy of Arts and founded an artists’ colony. This academy had a significant impact on young French painters, particularly those of the Lyon School.

In 1946, Garbel returned to Paris and exhibited in major galleries. From 1950 onwards, he also exhibited internationally – in Denmark, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, Italy, and the United States. During an exhibition in New York organised by the Fine Arts Associates Gallery, a film was produced about him and his work.

Until his death, he continued to actively exhibit in galleries and participate in artistic events. Garbel's works are held in museums in Luxembourg, Turin, Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, Haifa, Rio de Janeiro, Milwaukee, Tokyo, and across France.
