Lina Blum was the daughter of Sheyna Osmiyanskaya (1865, Liepāja – 1932, Liepāja) and Miron-Meyer Osmiyansky (1864 – 1914, Liepāja).
In 1920, Lina Blum moved to Germany. Between 1923 and 1925, she worked as a foreign correspondent at the export firm Theintze and Otsmen in Berlin. In 1925, she graduated from the Philological Faculty of the Berlin State University. From 1925 to 1933, she lived in Munich. In 1933, Blum relocated to Riga, where she taught private lessons until 1940. Between 1940 and 1941, she served as a secretary-typist and foreign language instructor at the Ministry of Foreign Trade of the Latvian SSR.
In 1941, Lina Blum was evacuated to Tashkent. From 1941 to 1944, she taught foreign languages in evacuation hospitals and worked as a scientific translator at the Novlub Institute. In 1946, she returned to Riga. Between 1946 and 1948, and again from 1955 to 1964, she taught at Vneshtorg. From 1962, she was classified as a second-group invalid and became a pensioner.
Lina was married to Yakov Blum (1898, Poland – 1933, Munich). They had two daughters: Ruth Blum (1930, Munich – 1942, Tashkent) and Garber (née Blum) Miryam (1925, Munich). During the Holocaust, Blum's sisters, Maria Freidovich (née Osmiyanskaya) (1888– 1942, Liepāja) and Betti Shlosberg (née Osmiyanskaya) (… – 1942, Liepāja), were killed.
In 1968, Lina Blum received permission to emigrate to Israel, invited by her husband's daughter from his first marriage, Alisa Shapiro (née Blum) (1922, Munich).
